Detonating musical ley lines running the length of Kingsland Road, EASTnotEAST is a monthly conglomerate of bass munchers, beat herders and volume junkies. Based at Dalston venue Birthdays, the party returns on November 14th with a very special line up matching three newcomers against one another. Bristol bred maverick Javeon is set to play a joint-headline with FTSE, while Barnaby is also on hand to raise temperatures.

JAVEON
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR1VfVzwubs)
PMR Records are fast becoming known for re-painting the face of modern British pop music. With a roster that already boasts Sam Smith, Jessie Ware and Two Inch Punch, we introduce their latest offering Javeon: a slow-jam soul man with sprightly beats. With his debut single

FTSE
(https://soundcloud.com/thankftse/ftse-s … fortebowie)
From the midlands comes pop producer and vocalist Sam Manville. Masquerading as FTSE, he’s already dropped two fluid EP’s that showcase some solid lyrical ability on top of his super clean productions.

BARNABY
(https://soundcloud.com/barnabyofficial/ … e-lemonade)
Barnaby is a fresh and unsigned solo chap who’s finally bobbed to the surface with his debut track ‘Fresh Made Lemonade’. It’s almost four minutes of cashmere-coated R&B pop guided by his glassy vocals and fruity (in every way) lexicon. His live show will be a window into what’s to come...

MR MAFRO
The entire night will be sewn together by the sporadic micro-DJ sets of disgraced Glaswegian selector, Mr Mafro, who is famed for his legendary decade spanning clubnight Kinky Afro.

£6.50 ADVANCE TICKETS: http://www.skiddle.com/e/11946860/

FIRST 50 BUYERS RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF CLASH

After a sold out show with Bipolar Sunshine and Benin City, our sister clubnight EASTnotEAST continues its new monthly residency at Birthdays on Wednesday September 4th with a smattering of live electronic folk and abnormal beats. Fyfe, Jamie Isaac and Nick Brewer will all grace the stage for full live performances, and the entire night will be sewn together by the divine micro-DJ sets of Somerset producer, DJ God Hard. September 4th will also mark the release of Clash Magazine issue 88, and the first fifty advance ticket buyers will receive a FREE copy on arrival at the venue.

FYFE
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zLQt-vR8WA)
Fyfe has garnered mass attention with the delicate and experimental pop sounds of his ‘Solace EP’. The coming months will see even more new music, and his most recent track ‘Conversations’ might be the best so far, manifesting as a haunting ballad of glassy vocals and chattering beats.

JAMIE ISAAC
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX1pkDs5XIA)
The 18-year-old originally became known for his collaborative work with King Krule, but has now acquired a solid solo following since the release of his masterful ‘I Will Be Cold Soon EP’. From that release, ‘Softly Draining Seas’ has become his clarion call, a dark and warped piano number full of clicking percussion and reverbed vocals.

NICK BREWER
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9bHm4vCqSA)
A new young lyricist from the streets of Essex, whose poetic rap prose is set upon a backdrop of hazy hip-hop soundscapes. Nick’s EP comes out in mid-September and features Jacob Banks, George The Poet and Joel Baker.

Advance tickets are £6.50 from Skiddle, or £8 on the door. If you attended the last EASTnotEAST, then check your emails for a special loyalty discount code.

KIRIN J CALLINAN
PLAYS THE OLD BLUE LAST

KANADA and Clash Magazine are proud to reveal that Kirin J Callinan will be playing a free and spontaneous show at The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch on Thursday, August 8th.

Read his 9/10 album review on ClashMusic.com HERE

Kirin J Callinan has his own theory that the three great Australian bands, the Mt. Rushmore of Oz if you will, all have a criminal aspect to them: AC/DC = gang of outcasts raising hell, INXS = sexual deviancy, lasciviousness, and Nick Cave = murderous poet. Kirin has elements of all three, and in time, he will be the fourth face on that rock.

This free show nods towards his live performance at London’s Visions Festival this weekend, alongside Fucked Up, Jeffrey Lewis, Cloud Nothings, Koreless, Iceage, The Haxan Cloak, Micachu and Tirzah. You can buy tickets here: visionsfestival.com

BIPOLAR SUNSHINE
BENIN CITY + TUESDAY BORN

Thursday, August 8th @ Birthdays, Dalston
33-35 Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 8BJ

£5 ADVANCE TICKETS FROM SKIDDLE : RECEIVE A FREE COPY OF CLASH

On August 8th, Clash Magazine returns to the scintillatingly soft and pulsating underbelly of East London for a night of live music from three of the biggest new acts around. Bipolar Sunshine, Benin City and Tuesday Born will all grace the stage for full live performances, with all dots joined together by the voracious micro-DJ sets of disgraced Glasgow selector Mr Mafro (formerly of chaotic African clubnight; Kinky Afro).

After a loyal and treasured spell at The Shacklewell Arms, August will see us migrate down the road to Birthdays. We’ll never forget The Shacklewell, and it’s fairy-lit smoking garden, but change must be embraced. August 8th will also mark the release of Clash Magazine issue 87, and the first fifty advance ticket buyers will receive a free copy on arrival at the venue. Purchase here:

Bipolar Sunshine occupies headline slot. The Manchester lad hasn’t put a foot wrong since going solo, constantly churning out an impressive slew of Afrobeat electro and sunny guitar lines. And his recent A$AP Rocky tribute revealed a delicate set of pipes that nobody quite expected...

Supporting, are two acts from forward-thinking indie label Audio Doughnuts. The first, Tuesday Born, is a 21 year old jazz based pianist and producer with a bubbling penchant for soulful r&b. He draws his musical inspiration from two long spells in Columbia and Ghana, and both cultures manifest subtly on recent track ‘Wake’.

The most arresting performance of the night will undoubtedly come from main support Benin City. Led by Joshua Idehen, a bastion of London’s spoken word scene, the group are a frenetic mesh of drums, sax, beats and rhymes. Their album drops on July 1st.

BIOGS:

In our next voyage into bass, Clash heads west to the salubrious confines of The Supper Club, London’s acclaimed, luxury dancing spot for an exclusive June issue launch party.

ROSKA: Effortlessly comfortable shape shifting across Rinse, Tectonic or Hotflush, few DJs have stamped their name on UK Bass as firmly as Roska has over the last few years. Expect rumbling depth, shaking rhythms and a battle cry that screams: Roska! Roska! Roska!

BEN PEARCE: It’s safe to say that Ben Pearce has been the fastest ascending star in the sky of club culture. And with a smash hit of ‘What I Might Do’ reverberating around the world it’s a good job he’s been honing his craft a lot longer than his studio time. He’s killer on the decks and now forges the tunes to take him even further. A key figure for your future.

SINDEN: Label boss of Grizzly and one of the hands which has been guiding the ship of UK dance music for the last 10 years. A key player in the blog or fidget house trend that went viral in club land five years ago you’ll recall that it’s probably best to get him on his beeper yeah? However he’s back from LA now so you can check up on what he’s been tinkering with in the engine room of dance’s music change.
