Re: Top 5 Dj's

Perry Farrell would definitely my number 2.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

Question for people. What should DJ of the year be based on:

- purely what you have heard out

- or should it include mixes on radios, CDs etc

I think my top 5's would differ depending on how it is judged

Re: Top 5 Dj's

if it included cds it would be completely different.

dave seaman makes some genius cds, but what i've heard of his live stuff (lately) seems a bit... limp.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

DJ of the year should be based on those that are skilled at mixing, able to work a crowd AND have consistantly pushed the boundries of their DJing styles and genres and suprise us on the odd occasion.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

1. Me for my award winning mix CD I did at Easter. Erm... It's nearly perfect.

2. Richards and Burridge equally for a very nice CD. Thanks gents.

3. Swayzak for another VERY nice CD.

4. John Peel. Need I say more?

5. Diggers. See above.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

if it was based on cd's alone then Fortier would have definitely made my top 5. However, he was just pipped by Sander who works the crowd a bit better (imo) when playing out

Re: Top 5 Dj's

Mines available on WinMX just do a search for Simon Preston. Should work. Prog 08 is a nice 3hour mix. (Prog03R is my best though)

Send me message on WinMX telling me who you are and I`ll bump you up the queue.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

my top 5

1. Sander K - stormed it every time I have seen him

2. Digweed - consistently superb

3. Danny Howeels

4. Terry Francis - been impressed every time I have seen him

5. Fortier or Zabiela (Only seen each out once at GCSSS both superb)

Not on my list

Danny T - self indulgent = boring to me

Sasha - wasn't at Colours but he has been unimpressive during the last 12 months. Hopefully that will change at Space on the 15th

Pleb - Fortier CD is probs the best I own

Re: Top 5 Dj's

Personally I dont think cds should count as you get many chances to get them right. I think Steve Lawler works very hard and very creatively when out, but he openly admits he uses pro tools for his mix cds, Im sure the others do as well.

A dj should be a good dj because of how he makes his crowd feel, when the pressure is on, ie in a club, live.

Any dj that can do that well should be worth a thought IMO.

Thanks Si, I'll have a look when I get home.

Only have 56k until Ocober tho - your 3hr set might take until then...

Re: Top 5 Dj's

Probably take a little longer than that!! Most users on 56k only seem to average about 0.70k a second - more if they`re really lucky.

Re: Top 5 Dj's

I would say that the top 5 should be based on everything done by the djs. Therefore include mixing ability, crowd enjoyment, mix albums, originality etc etc. Mine would be in no order

John Digweed

James Zabiela

Sasha

Carl Cox

Tony Blackburn

Re: Top 5 Dj's

Sasha was disapointing at both Homelands & GCSS (esp 1st time he was on in Bedrock).

Destroyed Colours & some of sets on US tour were superb, When he does deliver it really is something special
