Re: The General Footy Thread

The Bale fee is spread out over 2 years, so they'd have to sell 1 million extra shirts each year to cover it. And that's just shirts. It easily adds up.

And yet you were all ready to go balls deep in Thiago, despite being a sub-bit part player at Barca and now only third in line at Munich. Obviously you wouldn't have applied the same observations on Ozil to Modric had he come to you, which was also heavily touted. Course not.

Don't think I'm gloating by the way - I think Wenger is mad not have bought in another striker. If Giroud goes down Arsenal are in deep shit.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Mixing it with the big boys doesn't really means spending loads of oil money and winning the French league, nowhere near winning a European cup, either of them.

2 payments of 40m+ is a great bit of business for Spurs

Madrid could easily have insisted on spreading payments over 4 years

anyone know how much Southampton made out of the deal at all?

Yet, perhaps.

But 'mixing it with the big boys' does mean competing with Europe's elite for top players (what they're already doing). If they continue the spending at this rate then it'll only be a matter of time before success follows.

Thought PSG were unlucky against Barca last year in the Champs League

Nothing.  IIRC the clause in his contract from Southampton to Spurs was bought out a few years ago when Southampton needed the cash.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Yea, we sold that clause out when on the brink of bankruptcy. However there is some sort of solidarity payment of about £2m from UEFA for training him as a youngster. The sell on fee would have been close to 20m I think.

Where do you get this shit from Matt? The Baines deal was off early yesterday, Utd only enquired about Coentrao yesterday arvo, certainly not enough time to do a deal, although somehow that might still come off. Nice to know what he thinks of Spurs though.

United were never in for Ozil. As I stated he was rebuffed 3 weeks ago when his father asked for too much wages. Besides, why would Utd pay that kind of money and wages for a player when Kagawa and Rooney will play the same position?

I dont know what happened with Herrera, nobody does. The only deals that was ongoing for Utd were Baines & Fellaini. In the end Utd had to wait for Everton to bring in replacements as my "graph" showed last week. Everton in the end dug their heels in over Baines and then Utd, Wigan & Everton completed the ring of transfers.

Buying Fellaini makes Utd stronger, whether you have to check the stats or just look at Cleverleys performance on Sunday to understand why. Im sure Moyes will go back to Bilbao in January, they have plenty of time to sort that out by then. The whinging and giving out by Uniteds anti-Glazer bozos certainly puts them in the same light as the dipper fans, shameful.

At least we can get on with the fuckin season now.

I decided it was time to fly headlong into the abuse hole that is this thread. Especially now Flaresy is back.

Re: The General Footy Thread

United are now officially the worse barbered team in the league.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Did Yant manage to get one rumour right in the transfer window?

I want to see the graph that explains the logic behind leaving transfer business until the last day.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Ed, any idea what happened to Demba Ba, was supposed to go to Arsenal but that fell through. Did he go anywhere else or is he still at Chelsea?

Still with us unfortunately.

It is understood that the initial paperwork was submitted before the 23:00 BST deadline on Monday. This contained the outline of the deal, the signature of the player and both clubs.

That gave all parties an hour to complete the deal. But Madrid backed away when their attempt to recruit a replacement left back, Guilherme Siqueira from Granada, fell through because he instead joined Benfica.
