January signings will be key if the board are serious about wanting to get into the CL spots

But do they want enough it Ruud? I'm literally not sure if they've got that kind of warchest in their locker come the business end of the transfer window.

well quite - no one knows

my suspicion is that we won't be signing anyone unless Saurez gets injured / sold

but if expectations are that we can maintain a push for the top 4 without strengthening - that IMO is misguided

Re: The General Footy Thread

For the record, the top four will be Arsenal, United, Chelsea and City.

Re: The General Footy Thread

can't see liverpool making too many big signings in January - they signed a lot of players over the summer which I expect brent will have to start playing a bit more if they - the likes of Aspas etc

I hadn't heard about the Van Persie transfer request how long has he got left on his contract?

Re: The General Footy Thread

We'd take old Robin down at the bridge.

He'd be great for us and would get some half decent service too.

Sakho £17m
Mingolet £9.5m
Aspas £7.5m
Ilori £7m
Alberto £7m
Moses £1m (loan)
Cissokho £1m (loan)
Toure £0 (free)

i know it's stating the bleedin obvious but bar Mingolet & Toure (and jury out on Ilori) - the money spent on the rest of that lot (£30m+) could have been put to much better use imo

next 4 games for LFC are very tough:

15/12 Spurs (away)
21/12 Cardiff (home)
26/12 City (away)
29/12 Chelsea (away)

Re: The General Footy Thread

DJ Campbell.

Never thought these betting syndicate tentacles would get that high.

The lower league players is not surprising.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Everyone who played for Leeds in the last ten years needs to be investigated.

Re: The General Footy Thread

On second thoughts, they were so shit they'd scupper any bets the Malaysians were laying out.

Re: The General Footy Thread

He's really not keen on playing Alberto, not sure why, must be a lazy shite in training, or just shite.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Sturridge aside, he's not keen on playing anyone he's bought. Doesn't bode well really

aspas and alberto got a few games at the start didn't they? seem to remember aspas being a bit lightweight but improving in the time he had.

Moses is a quality player IMO - premiership proven as well. Fantastic at Wigan and showed that he had the skills to keep his place in a team with Mata, Hazard and Oscar in it last season - used to love watching him play - he scored a couple of important goals for chelsea too. I think if he is given more time then he will come good.

indeed

look like they are of the level they are: mid table Spanish players

they might have played at U21 level but Aspas is 25 now - hardly a young player

@ Wigan it was a 'big fish in a small pond' scenario imo - i don't see anything of real quality about him

Re: The General Footy Thread

DJ Campbell has denied any involvement in match fixing and has said he is available to play in this weeks 2-0 defeat at Millwall

Coutinho & Mignolet ?

Pissed away too much money on up & coming players that won't make the first 11 any time soon (Borini / llori / Alberto) and Spanish C internationals (Aspas).

Sakho will come good once he gets used to the Prem, and Toure has been good experience wise. But centre halves and a goalkeeper weren't the priorities at the end of last season.

Good to see Suso doing well, not that Buck bought him.

He scored in just about every comp he played in while at Chelsea - PL, CL, Europa and FA Cup. No mean feat IMO given the amount of minutes he got. on more than one occasion I thought he put in MOM performances for them last year.

He had some great performances for Wigan - didn't they beat Man Utd when he was playing? He ran Evra ragged didn't he? Also played very well against Chelsea before he signed for them too.

Not to mention a few goals for Nigeria since he was called up for them too.

Decent player IMO. Strong on the ball - got skills and confidence to run at defenders when he has the ball - can play across the front line and scores from anywhere.

Similar to Joe Cole before he went to Liverpool big_smile

Glaring omissions there. But not seen a lot of the others he's bought. Allen and Borini look like complete disasters.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Allen should be ok if he toughens up a bit.

Ideally I'd like to see us grab Cabaye and Salah .. although the latter price is rising.

I remember watching that. Listening to hooligans guffing on about men needing to do something else if they can't fight at football was quite bad, but listening to West Ham fans defending Liverpool fans at Heysel was quite a shock - not the fans' fault?  Sounds familiar that.
