What is it that your actually studying Presto?  Module wise?  Just wondering what they teach these days and if it has any relevance to whats going on here in the real world.

Business Computer Systems.

Things I have learned/am learning:

Java
Javascript
CSS
HTML5
SQL (mainly MS SQL in terms of environment)
ASP.net

On the more boring side of things:

SSADM
Project Management
Databases (design, structure, maintenance)
Systems Analysis plus Design
Network technologies

A few other modules that weren't much fun. Haven't had any php or C++ on our modules, which is a shame. Kind of wishing I'd done Software Engineering or Computer Science but I'm doing okay with this. Reckon I can finish on 2:1 with honours.
Relevancy, I think the course is actually quite good. Very much geared to getting a decent career at the end of it.

Feel free to tell me what its missing, though. My plan, once uni is done with, is to take up other courses whilst working to mop up the things I haven't done.

Re: FAO Wally

All seems reasonable tbh.  Depends what you wanna do at the end i suppose,  The Microsoft stuff will get you a corporate IT job, but i'd personally avoid that and specialise in an area you enjoy if you want to do more interesting work.

Re: FAO Wally

Still not decided on what I really want to do next tbh. Web Development or DBA seems to be something I'd have no problem with. Not particularly exciting, but if the money is good. Flipping burgers in McDonalds is not exciting either.

Re: FAO Wally

So GTA Online is an absolute AIDs riddled disaster area: characters being deleted, servers broken, un-skippable cutscenes. WTF Wally? Victim of their own hype? With the amount of hype generated, this level of use must have been anticipated.

Wasn't the online Wally's area?

Quelle surprise.

Pesto lined up as a natural replacement with his ASP skills.

Re: FAO Wally

The story mode is amazing. Online is unplayable. Total nightmare.

Re: FAO Wally

Yep, still doesn't manage to overshadow how brilliant a game this is. Wally letting the whole team down it seems.

big_smile "He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword" - I was waiting for this to come up on here lol.

Yeah, I mostly (but not exclusively) worked on GTA:Online. Managed to get in the pre-game credits in the intro (when Lamar is driving you around after picking you up from the airport) which I was absolutely buzzing about.

So, yeah, the launch has been a disaster hasn't it? no excuses are there? It's such a shame but just about every online game goes through a difficult birth. Two weeks time it'll all be fixed.

>> Victim of their own hype? With the amount of hype generated, this level of use must have been anticipated.

Of course - we went from a few thousand testers to several million+ at once overnight. That would cripple anyone. (FWIW, we also has some problems that were completely out of our control - even Sony and MS baulked at the demand for the game).

The thing is, the number of people wanting to play any online game *at the same time* drops off exponentially after the first few days - there is no point (and it's too costly) in buying server space that supports all the players (i.e. every copy of GTAV sold), if it's going to drop off to no where near that after three days - it's good business to just take the initial shitstorm and carry on. Every game company does it.

Also my personal opinion was that if they'd said "it's a beta test" and launched it as such (as Battlefield and COD do), it would have made people a lot more understanding, given us time to find bugs and squash them. I'm not sure why we didn't do that (to be fair, we did release a statement saying you should expect issues - we just didn't think they would be as bad as the ones that turned up which were pretty horrific).

Anyway, it's only been out a week, one of the major problems (people being blocked on the tutorial mission which produced massive server issues) has been fixed. The second biggest (character deletions) is about to be fixed. Give it another week and it will all be sorted and this will be a distant memory.

A lot of people are really loving it (when it works) and we've noticed the general comments on places like neogaf are slowly changing from the initial shitstorm to people actually playing it and enjoying it a lot. Comments are changing from technical issues to gameplay issues which is good - we listen to all feedback.

Anyhoo - GTA:Online is here to stay - My advice would be to just chill out for a week - I've not played it yet myself out of work as I'm still going through the single player side of things - it'll all get sorted soon.

Oh and FWIW, I've not seen one complaint about anything I did for it so far Millsy - My Tea making skills are flawless. lol big_smile

Why, are you not proud of your achievements in life? Or is this post bedrock blues?

Re: FAO Wally

This game is sensational, Millsy. You should get it and stay at a hotel for the weekend. Hire out an Xbox. Job done.

P.S theres more where that came from when it comes to ideas.

All the best.

Re: FAO Wally

I have faith it'll come good in a few weeks, still have plenty to do on the single player anyway so no loss waiting. One question Wally - I bought a PS3 just for this game but just bought a cheapy PS3 slimline with only 12GB memory. I think GTA itself filled 8GB of that, will the extra content needed for Online fit in the puny amount of HDD space left?

Re: FAO Wally

A ban for Wally is definitely in order.

Needs to focus on work.

Re: FAO Wally

Cheers Ed - off on my (well deserved) hols now as it happens. Back in the office next week.

Online won't take up any more - except the small title updates (last one was 60MB so you should have more than enough room left)

Second title update was released yesterday that should help with characters being deleted.

Mrs is heavily preggars so can't fly anywhere so we just went to London for a few days then to the lakes for a bit of r&r.

TBH I've worked so hard on the project I've kind of made myself a bit ill and need some time to get used to not being in work & back in the real world again so going away wasn't that important to me - just need some time to sort my head out and recover.
