Topic: Decent dance music on MTV?

From spaced.co.uk

"MTV is hardly renowned for being a purveyor of underground dance music, but the station has just announced the launch of a new show which will present a dedicated hour of drum&bass, techno, UK garage, trance, and house music at 10pm each weekday from Monday to Friday respectively, featuring back to back music videos from artists and record labels that would not normally feature on any music channel playlists.

MTV Dance have been compiling a list of all the house, techno, drum & bass, UK garage & trance vids in existence and will be playing classic underground anthems along with the latest releases. In addition, as of last week, the station will be broadcasting 24/7 and this increase in airtime will hopefully result in the inclusion of more quality dance music and less pop trance / lightweight R'n'B.

Artists & Record Labels please send all videos to Laurence Koe at MTV Dance (koe.laurence@mtvdance.co.uk) for inclusion in the show. Please note that all videos should be sent on VHS format and sent to:

Laurence Koe, MTV Dance, 17-29 Hawley Crescent, Camden Town NW1 8TT The weekly run down of the Underground Sessions is as follows:

Monday: Drum and Bass & Breakbeat

Tuesday: Techno, Tech-house & hard house

Wednesday: UK Garage

Thursday: Trance & progressive house

Friday: House "

Re: Decent dance music on MTV?

Thats bad news knocking on our door. Lets make dance music corporate !!!!! How nice...@#%$!!!!!!!!

From the one hand the people who we have been listening to for so many years deserve a little credit, simply coz dance music was really neglected by the media but we dont need to turn dance music and our - once upon a time - independent labels into pop shite and djs into superstars who demand loads of cash to make an appearance (ie Oakie) and Im talking long-run...
