Topic: Slam in the Star Bar

Well worth checking tonight as there's no special guest in the Main Room.

The guys were at the forefront of the first Progressive House era back in the early ninties, recording early prog classics such as Positive Education and championing labels such as Limbo and of course there own imprint Soma.

They've been at the forefront of the dance scene ever since, although their sound could now be described as Tech-House and Techno.

Anyone gonna join me at some point?

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

One of my favourite records.
And to mention the 'p' word.

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Chris, Thanks for setting me straight on that point. Although at the time and 'doon south' it was considered to be Prog. Certainly in all the prog clubs around that era, Leisure Lounge, Club UK, Strutt were playing it.

But I bow down to you insider knowledge, yer exiled scumbag. wink

Slap wrist for me.

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Dan, Judge Jules played it.

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Yeah, but Judge Jules was quite good back then.

lol No problem Dan.... I think it was played in your prog filled heavens due to it's appearance on the the original Cream series.

Let me know if there are any Limbo records that you don't have and want.... 23rd Precinct our local prog specialist is the home of Limbo records.... managed to pick up the Duck up a release he's been after for years.... there's always some stock of most tunes hidden in a create in the back office  wink

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Gotta agree with Mr Harwood here - dunno how people view it now, but positive eduacation was undeniably classed as a prog record at the time.  Don't let the press's decisions that prog is a dirty word fool you - it's only a dirty word when describing boring records.

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Positive Education Is my favourite House/Techno/Prog tune of all time.
Amazing tune. lol

Nothing like jumping In a lake on a hot summers morning after having your head messed up by Tyrant all night IMO

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

I don't let magazines influence my thoughts on the 'p' word.
Just think it's an anal term.

Slam have always been techno.... from the very early days. Now their being labelled as Tech house because of their more recent production work. To me.... and not because prog is supposedly a dirty word... Positive Education will always be an early British attempt at Techno... it was the tune that broke them to the American pioneers, and has got them many a return gig to new york and detroit.

Re: Slam in the Star Bar

Cheeky git.  lol

One of my best nights out was a allnighter called Strutt Deluxe in a warehouse in Kings Cross where Slam were the special guests. It must have been around 92/3. They used to have a trumpetter play alongside them. It was an amazing party.

Going back to an old thread on the GU about the guy who had a piss next to Sasha, well I had a piss next to Tom Rowland of the Chemical Brothers when they were known as the Dust Brothers.

It was the sort of party where you bought a raffle ticket and won a drink everytime.
