Topic: Chilled out breakbeat

Hello, Just wondering if i can get some advice off u people

Do any of ya know any good chill out break beat CD's, that's the kinda thing i like to listen to at home these days.

I have one called "chillout basscapes", it's pretty good but yr 2000. Into any artist's like GusGus, mouse on mars, ken ishii, Tanith, zombie nation(no, not THAT one!), fresh moods, chris coco.

I'm just getting into it so don't really no wot CD's to go for, I want to avoid the commercial stuff (ministry etc). I have some old sasha and digs CD's which r pretty good, but they don't really do that ting these days. I have airdrawndagger it's ok but not enough really.

What's Gilles peterson like? I heard he's got a pretty chilled twanged-out kinda sound?

Well anyway, any input would be coo cheers

Check out Jonathan Lisle's stuff - he plays quite a bit of more "chilled" breaks (plus a fair bit of proper filthy breaks  )

Drop him a note (info@jonathanlisle.com) and hopefully he'll sort you out with cds...

Re: Chilled out breakbeat

theres a c.d i HIGHLY recommend that im listening to a lot at the moment, its not all breaks its instrumental hip hop and down tempo drum and bass, its called "EARTH volume 6" (you cant miss it in the shops its a 'box' style cover with a snowcapped mountain picture on the cover),

I love it - in fact theres some 4/4 beats there too, but all very laid back, its a killer compilation (compiled by no other than Danny "LTJ" Bukem himself) and has a really nice flow (its sequenced not mixed), theres vocals on there but its not too hectic, jazz influences without being too "noodly", if you know what i mean!

cant recommend this enough, the last 2 or three in the series have been mint, id definitely get this 6th installment though.

hope that helps

Re: Chilled out breakbeat

Have to agree with Big Hodge, the Earth series are quality, a real mix of mellow drum and bass, jazz and even house. Also check out anything by Waiwan (which is more mellow breakbeat).

I personally love Gilles Peterson, but his style is a lot more than just mellow music. His sets include anything from soul, funk, hip hop, house, drum and bass, and anything that is old and rare!! His Incredible mix album is.............incredibly good

Re: Chilled out breakbeat

try Kruder & Dorfmeister - K&D Sessions

it's got everything chilled and vaguely uncommercialised on there, breakbeat, d&b, jazz, hip hop... it's an amazing cd.

(they also have a cd out called DJ!Kicks, and while it's better produced, i don't really like it as much...)
