Blimey - feel strongly on that dont we!!!!

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

just a tad

Since fabric have a policy of booking lesser known DJs rather than the big names, how about giving Mojo a main room slot?

That would rock.

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

find them far too far commercial of late

even Lawlers 'lights out' seemed substandard to his 'dark drums' to me. although GU's output can have moments of brilliance it seems to me that the relevant Dj's are asked to include certain tracks in order to make the output commercial and sale'able for GU.

often i am impressed by a Dj live or via over recordings only to be subsequently disappointed by their 'Nubreed' or whatever GU output.

i realise its a business and profits have to be made - but i do wonder sometimes if exposure is so necessary that possible comprimise is suffered on the Dj's part(?). in the long run - don't they eventually suffer when the public stress.....

'well, i didn't like their last GU....'

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

How about a Bedrock xmas party @ Fabric instead??

Lisle @ Fabric would be impressive.

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

Bedrock should stay where it is......... a return to fabric of Digweed would be good.......Alos love to see JZ rock that sound system as well

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

surley moving bedrock to fabric would be a great thing because the sound system ROCKS. would the bedrock atmosphere not move to a different venue?

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

No contest GU pisses all over the fabric series. Dont get me wrong there are a couple of decent CDs out on Fabric but they dont compare. Favorite GU is Sasha 009, stood the test of time and is frequently back in my CD player. I take it nobody liked the last Seaman CD, personally I quite liked it

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

A few people have mentioned that Fabric should have more better known DJs such as Howells, Lawler etc DJing there. But the whole point of Fabric is that their guest DJs are DJs who you cannot usually hear anywhere else in the UK, rather than more popular DJs. Just because you havn't heard of a DJ playing at Fabric, doesn't mean that you won't have a good night. I've heard many a good set from DJs I'd never heard of before at Fabric. Deep C & Udoh being a perfect example, they played probably the second best set I've heard this year.

Oh, and that amazing sound system in Room 1 is going to be upgraded yet again very very soon with a Martin Audio Line Array, and new amps. Should be amazing, and very loud!!!

I`ve never heard Seaman mixing...

Anyway, as long as I have Disc 2 of GU Sasha:Ibiza GU will always win it...

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

Seaman's last GU was definately not up to his usual high standard of mix CDs.

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

just remember about packaging peoples that it's what makes the CD cost more. I'm quite happy and im sure many others are happy just to get a boring plain CD in a plastic cover if it has fantastic music. You've got to admit, the inlays of GU have writing about absolute shite, topics not even related to the DJ, and that Dom fella gets paid to write it included in the price of the cd we buy. A few photography of the DJ or an interesting texture on the inlay is nice, but ultimately it's what the laser reads that matters...

BTW i'm also yet to discover 'NuBreed' which I assume is a sub-compilation of GU... I'm quite new to all this!

Lastly who is recording Gatecrashers NEC mix on the 16th??? It's apparently broadcasted on Galaxy, which becuase I'm in Australia, I obviously recieve that radio station! Keep me updated if youre recording it!

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

Personally, I don't think any CD series can really hold it's own for more than a couple of releases. Fabric appeals to wide variety of taste's, and as a result, I only like a few. GU, well, some are amaxing, and some are so so. Bedrock - my favourite, and the strongest series as yet I think. I like Creamer/K's effort as well! I've got a good idea (IMHO!) for a series, and I'd love to put it into action one day, but I think if rather than selecting <insert popular DJ here>, if you had a competition of sorts - people would send in mixes to be judged, and the winner would get a release. This way, you'd never need to release anything sub-standard, and could keep the qulaity very high. And on top of that, chances are that a lot of lesser known, but talented DJ's would get their chance to shine. Some of the demo's I've heard this year have been far superior to many mix comps. Unfortunately, big names make big $$$, and people seem to more focused on the name than the music (at first), it's not until they get home and actually listen to it, that they slag it off!

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

The next Fabric cd is being mixed by John Peel!!! Just imagine the reaction if he realised a GU mix album...

Perhaps Tony Blackburn will be doing the 25th GU album. That would bring a whole new meaning to a return of old skool!!!

Re: Please debate .... (a music thread !)

Global Underground has proudly announced a new mix album, this time presented by British DJ James Lavelle, from one of Europe
