Re: The General Footy Thread

Talking of people on drugs -

Spurs are worth a bet at 22/1 to win next season's Premier League.

"With the top three teams to have new managers it could well be their season"

LOL

I'd take that flutter actually, decent odds.

Although I think Chelsea will romp it with Mourinho back.

Re: The General Footy Thread

I don't believe Arsenal sacrificed titles to build the Emirates.

Let's not forget it's been built for a few years now and they're still no closer to winning a trophy.

Re: The General Footy Thread

LOL at winning the league.  But.

If our chairman hadn't started our season 3 weeks later than everyone else by doing our business in the last minutes of the transfer window perhaps we wouldn't have been at such a disadvantage from the off.  Add to that the fact that Adebayor didn't come back anywhere near fit and it took him a good month at least after the window closed to get fit again, plus he was shit all season paired with a striker in Defoe who blows so hot and cold it's ridiculous.  So basically we played for most of the season without a decent striker.

Hopefully if we can get business done early this summer (lol again) and bring in some better options up top, plus you can add back into the mix Kaboul and Sandro, we aren't looking too bad - AVB has shown this season that he isn't the flop that Chelsea thought he was, we've taken points off of all of the big boys.

Bale situation is nothing to worry about (news from the club to come soon on that).  Quite a few current squad players including Ekotto, Huddlestone, Bentley and Livermore will be jogged on to generate some additional funds and free up some wages.

Re: The General Footy Thread

Much better to have a new stadium than silverware, wish I could pay 70 notes per home game to watch my team.

22/1 for Spurs to win the title look like terrible odds to me.

How many times in the past 23 years has a team outside the top 4 won the league the following season?

Re: The General Footy Thread

Anyone with any sense would bet on the team that has come above them for the last 18 years before they did them.

Anyone who bets against Liverpool winning the title next season is off their rocker.

Great to have insider on the board, means I don’t have to read the collated gossip column on BBC news

Re: The General Footy Thread

Shaun, since you don't much like Benitez and are just massively sarcastic about Rodgers all the time who would YOU like to be in charge?

Be honest, you were one of those total meffs who wanted Hodgsonaren't you (before a cringeworthy 'only said he might do a good job that's all!'-style about-face in a desperate attempt to restore some credibility with your mates)?

Re: The General Footy Thread

I like Benitez and massively respect the fact he won us the European Cup

but his time with us was definitely a mixed bag - transfers, tactics, substitutions, playing favourites - even without the ownership situation complicating matters

Rodgers seems to have a good philosophy for a manager that has achieved nothing within the game - and we can be very exciting going forwards at times - but we have also been very inconsistent over the course of the season and it's going to be a very slow process trying to qualify for the Champions League again - which will require further significant investment again to 'challenge' for top 4

also regardless of whether we are a club in 'transition' or not our starting point is still going to be behind those of Arsenal and Spurs going into the next season as everyone is going to be looking to improve

re: Hodgson - i understand why G&H went for him and why KD was ignored and also why subsequently KD was appointed as his successor when the new regime came into power

Re: The General Footy Thread

Jose, Cavani, Schurrle and Wazza.

Can't wait.

Re: The General Footy Thread

There's a fair chance none of them will happen.

I can see Joses appointment ending in tears, again

Re: The General Footy Thread

Tony Pulis has now left Stoke, maybe Clive Woodward or Martin Johnson will get the job

Re: The General Footy Thread

Actually if Martinez leaves Wigan they can appoint Pulis, he would be a perfect fit there
