Topic: Controllers advice

So the last time I really touched any decks in anger was around six years ago and things have moved on somewhat. But my recent daliance with the ipad Traktor DJ app, despite it's showstopping bugs, has got me thinking of investing in Traktor Pro or Serato and a controller - so any advice on this or should I just get an iRiver and a Mac?

I already have a top end laptop and powered monitor peakers and all that shenanigans, but I have no idea what to get in terms of a controller. I want something small, easy to mix with in the same way as I did in the old days (Xfader, two decks). FX in built, but nothing too fancy because FX are usually overdone anyways. EQing and loops, cues all built in, and a headphone jack. I have no room for a full scratch set up with Technics at the moment, so needs to be compact and able to do all the above in one, neat package. Basically something to knock out mixes on with just a maptop and speakers and some cans.

Is the NI X1 any good? Anything that I can get on ebay for less than £200 and Traktor thrown in would be a bonus.

Faderfox do some neat little mixers, but they are small:

That Z1 looks pretty nice tbf.... Just know everyone's going to be using them in the next couple of years.

Re: Controllers advice

anything out there that does both what the X1 and Z1 does combined? If I got an X1, assume I can just run my old A&H XOne as the mixer?

It's starting to look bulky. If Traktor DJ for ipad actually worked that last set up looks ideal.

Re: Controllers advice

Z2 kind of does.

Just sell the lot you have and start again. Cheap if you ask me and im having a ball. Waiting for my Z1.

Ive just noticed that there are no cue buttons on the Z1, thats ok if you have an Ipad as you can use the ones on the App but on a laptop you would still need another controller which kind of defeats the object of having a Z1, pity

Re: Controllers advice

The two round blue buttons half way up are cue.

A decent moderator would merge these threads, surely?

You'd map it out on the X1 Matt. Prob FX2 button

Just ordered one! happy days (maybe not for my neighbours)

Re: Controllers advice

Fucking ace I reckon. One X1 was driving me mad though so I bought another. With the Z1 ill be pig in shit tackle.
Bit pissed they are bringing out a Mk2 already. Cunts.

Anyhow selling my xone92 will pay for the lot. Happy days. New monitors next.

Re: Controllers advice

Just wished it had 4 channels so maybe you could be a bit more creative. It does take the fun out of it just hitting sync...still can't beat traktor vinyl. It's great seeing people who reckon they can still mix give it the pots & pans.

Re: Controllers advice

Somewhere on the NI site it says they are developing for 4 channels.

Re: Controllers advice

Z2 looks good, especially with the analogue integration so I can dust off the ones and twos once in a while.

I meant cue buttons as to cue the tracks not headphone cues, there are also no pitch controls on there so you would still need another controller, like Dan says maybe an X1 and Z1 combo looks the best bet, or just buy an iPad

Re: Controllers advice

Millsy if this is just for mucking about at home etc, then this will do it well

http://www.reloop.com/reloop-mixage-ie-mk2

Very good build quality, built for Traktor Pro 2

or this one, which is a little pricier

http://www.reloop.com/reloop-jockey-3-remix

very good reviews online

Re: Controllers advice

I love my S4. It has all the bells and whistles for Traktor Pro 2 and is a lovely robust piece of kit. Just a shame I've hardly touched the bugger in the last few months.

Prog God

Re: Controllers advice

ive heard good things about those reloops but never had the chance to use one.

Part of the problem

Re: Controllers advice

not used one myself but for entry level price it looks like you get a lot more. build quality is solid and inbuilt soundcard being a bonus so its just plug and play with traktor.
